Cowley Low Traffic Neighbourhoods – Better and Safer for Everyone!
This website has been set up to help people find out about the three Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) in Church Cowley, Temple Cowley and Florence Park, introduced in March 2021 as a 6-18 month trial.
** It is happening! After a high level of support demonstrated through Oxfordshire County Council’s public consultation, Cowley LTNs are being introduced in March – Church Cowley first, followed by Florence Park then Temple Cowley **
**THESE ARE EARLY DAYS – PLEASE SEE UPDATES ON OUR NEWS PAGE**
Who are we?
We are a group of Cowley residents who want everyone to have the opportunity to walk, cycle, scoot, wheelchair or use public transport as needed, whilst ensuring that those who do need to travel by car can do so with minimal impact on our community. We hope that the information on this site will help to explain why we are supporting LTNs and why we are excited about the changes that they could bring to our area.
Cars are part and parcel of living in a town or city, but traffic can have a negative impact on the quality of people’s lives. When traffic builds up in residential areas, we’re less likely to walk or cycle. Children spend less time playing outside and neighbours don’t talk to each other. We believe that introducing LTNs will make life in Cowley safer, healthier and more enjoyable for all. Click here for more ‘residents stories’.
The photo below shows what a neighbourhood with lower levels of motor traffic could look like. This is from Waltham Forest in London, where LTNs were introduced in 2014. We think it looks pretty good! Click here for more…
